The liver is the large and meaty organ located on the right side of our belly. The liver weighs about 3 pounds. It is reddish-brown in color with giving a rubbery feel when touching.

The liver is mainly protected by the rib cage and it has 2 large sections called as the left Lobes and right lobes. Liver plays a major role in the complete healthy functioning of the body. People who are addicted to alcohol could have Alcohol-Related Liver Disease (ARLD). It is one of the Liver damage mainly caused by the excess intake of alcohol. All heavy drinkers would develop fatty liver.

There are several stages of severity in Alcohol-Related Liver Disease (ARLD) and these are mainly denoted with the variation in the alcoholic liver disease symptoms. Based on a recent report, more than 35% develop alcoholic hepatitis and 20% of them also develop cirrhosis.

With the years of alcohol abuse, it could cause the liver to become swollen and inflamed. Normally, the damages could be mainly caused by scarring called as cirrhosis and thus is considered as the last stage in the Liver diseases. Symptoms of Alcohol-Related Liver Disease include:

  • Weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling sick
  • Yellowing of eyes and skin (Jaundice)
  • Swelling in ankles and tummy
  • Drowsiness or Confusion
  • Vomiting blood or passing blood in stools

Alcohol-Related Liver Disease is one of the public health problems and more than 10% of Americans drink heavily. When you are having these alcoholic liver disease symptoms then it is quite important to get immediate treatment with stopping the alcohol usage. The main reason is that liver failure could be fatal.
